Some of the best trout fishing in the state of Georgia is right here on the Toccoa River, Rock Creek, Cooper Creek and Noontootla Creek. While there are some wild trout available, most of the fish caught on these waters are from the state’s rainbow trout stocking program.

Wading is the best method for fishing the Toccoa River headwaters. Public access and take-out points are limited in this area due to privately owned land. Sandy Bottoms area is a great place to fish. There are many places to wade into the river and ample car parking is available. You will also find toilets and a ramp to the water's edge making it easily accessible for people with disabilities. The Toccoa River tailwater offers several public access areas for fishing. These include Tammen Park by the Blue Ridge Dam, Curtis Switch Road off of Hwy. 60 and Horseshoe Bend Park in McCaysville. Excellent wade fishing is available at these points, but the best method is to put-in at the dam and float down to one of the other points in a drift boat, kayak, canoe or fishing pontoon boat. This section of the Toccoa River is located below the Blue Ridge Dam and is controlled by the Tennessee Valley Authority.

TVA uses this water for generating electricity in return affects the flow of the Toccoa River between the dam and the Tennessee border. When the TVA is generating electricity, the river can become very dangerous and should be factored in when planning a fishing trip.

Noontootla Creek is home to some big trophy trout, but flows through a lot of private land. One of the best places to fish the creek is at Noontootla Creek Farms. Guided trips can be arranged through Unicoi Outfitters.

Why not book a trip with one of our local outfitters and spend time on the water going after some beautiful trophy trout.

If fishing is the focus of your trip, Fish Tales is the cabin for you. With direct access to the Toccoa River tailwater, there is some great fishing right in front of the cabin. Ask-A-Bear Hideaway is close to headwater area of the Toccoa River for fishing from Sandy Bottom to the Shallowford Bridge.

For fishing Lake Blue Ridge, take a look at Lake Overlook. This cabin is in a lake front community with a private dock so you can bring your boat.
