The annual Scottish Festival and Highland Games promoting the Scottish heritage of the Blairsville area is being held on June 10-11, 2017 at Meeks Park. As usual, there will be plenty of different kinds of demonstrations, food, music, dance and bagpipes. The festival runs from 9 AM to 5 PM each day with the gates opening at 8 AM.

October is Apple Festival time in North Georgia and this year the two festival weekends are October 14th. and 15th. and October 21st. and 22nd. with all the festivities being held at the Ellijay Lions Club Fairgrounds in Ellijay, GA. This is the 46th. year for the festival which highlights lots of handmade crafts, demonstrations, food and music. An antique car show will be held on October 14th. and the parade in downtown Ellijay will be on October 21st.
Come celebrate the art of making sorghum syrup at the Annual Blairsville Sorghum Festival being held on October 14-15 and October 21-22, 2017 from 9 AM to 5 PM each day. The festival will be kicked off with the Sorghum Parade on Saturday October 14th. at 11 AM in downtown Blairsville. There’s always a ton of things to do and see, like a greased pole climbing contest, arts and crafts and log sawin’.

Held on the third Monday of February, this day honors presidents of the United States, including George Washington, the USA’s first president. During that weekend, there are great festivals for visitor’s enjoyment.
In Blue Ridge for instance, is held the Fire and Ice Chili Cookoff. This event combine a chili cookoff with ice sculptures and you have an unlikely combination for the Annual Fire and Ice Cookoff in Downtown Blue Ridge.
St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated on or around March 17. So make your reservations in advance to come on up for that weekend. Feel the great Irish spirit and be part of the different events held in Blairsville and Blue Ridge.
The Boro Inn Pub in Blue Ridge, is always the place to celebrate St. Patty’s Day. The pub is owned by an authentic Irish Catholic priest with his own confessional inside the bar. Lots of different beers, pool tables and darts await for those wanting to celebrate in the true Irish way.
Easter depends on the ecclesiastical approximation of the March equinox and celebrate the Jesus Christ’s resurrection after his crucifixion. One of the most traditional activities is Easter Eggs Hunting! In Blue Ridge The Annual Blue Ridge Community Easter Egg Hunt is held. This event begins around 1 PM and it’s free! Adults and children alike enjoy this hunt. Prizes are awarded to the children finding the prize eggs and refreshments are served.

Memorial Day Weekend 2017 is observed on the last Monday of May, so you know what that means…it’s Arts in the Park time in Blue Ridge. Every year this festival gets bigger and better with more than 20,000 folks enjoying the wide array of fine arts and crafts, food and music.
Blairsville holds their annual Memorial Day Parade during that weekend in the morning in downtown Blairsville.

July 4th. – With the 4th. falling on Tuesday this year, July 4th. festivities will be occurring on July 1 and July 2. In Blue Ridge, the annual fireworks extravaganza at the marina will happen on Sat. July 1st., usually right after sunset. There is always music and food at the marina and you can view the fireworks from a boat, the Dam or at Morganton Point.
On July 2nd., the Boat Dock Bar and Grill at the Blue Ridge Marina will have live music with Shannon York from 6-9 PM. Come enjoy some good food and music.
On Tuesday July 4th. there is the 5K/10K Blue Ridge Freedom Race through beautiful downtown Blue Ridge.

The Annual Labor Day BBQ at the Blue Ridge City Park will be held on September 4th. from 11:30 – 6 PM. Bring your lawn chairs, buy a plate and enjoy some great BBQ and live music with some friends. You can get more info at this website.
Blairsville will be hosting the Mountain Heritage Festival on September 2-3 from 10 AM – 5 PM at the Mountain Life Museum near the square in downtown Blairsville. There will be lots of locally handcrafted products, food and other activities for your enjoyment. This event is free to everyone.
Halloween means lots of fun for kids! Each October, Downtown Blairsville hosts Hometown Halloween on the Square, an amazing trick-or-treat event complete with tons of candies, costumes, and contests for the whole family! – This year the event will be held on October 31 from 6 to 8 PM.
Veteran’s Day fall on November 11. During this day, we honor and thank all military personnel who served the United States in all wars, particularly living veterans. Come to the Mountains and share with your family great moments to celebrate Thanksgiving. The 7th Annual Community Thanksgiving Open Table at Fannin County High School will be held on November 23, 2017 from 12-4 PM in the school cafeteria. Hosted by the Good Samaritans, come share turkey and fellowship with others in the community. There is no charge for the meal and there will be a silent auction until 4:30 PM. All proceeds and donations above the event costs are used to support the Good Sam’s benevolent ministry.
A variety of events set the beginning of Christmas season in our community, such as:
Light Up Blue Ridge – November 25, 2017 is the date when the giant 27 ft. Christmas Tree will be lit in downtown Blue Ridge. All of the merchants in downtown will have there doors open with specials and the day will feature all kinds of food and music. Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus will arrive around around 9:30 AM and then there will be a parade through downtown. The Gingerbread House Contest along with the Window Decorating Contest and Tree Lighting will occur around 7 PM. Come out and enjoy the festivities!
Santa Express Train Rides – Each weekend starting on November 24th. and then every day from December 16th. – December 23rd. Train rides with Santa while listening to “Twas the Night Before Christmas” and singing Christmas Carols can’t be beat. Santa walks through each train car and poses for pictures with all of the kids during the 1 hour train ride on the Blue Ridge Scenic Railroad. Everyone gets a memento of the trip too. Blairsville Christmas Parade – On December 2nd. from 10 AM – 7 PM downtown Blairsville will host an open house at the Mountain Life Museum, pictures with Santa from 1-3 PM and the annual Christmas Parade at 4 PM. Plus, all of the exhibits in the Old Courthouse will be open for viewing.
